About Us
Our Story
We are very proud of our journey - which has been an incredibly positive one.
There have been a few challenges along the way too!
From Humble Beginnings
2003-2009
Hampton Football Club has been providing Football for the Hampton Community for over 20 years.
The Club was created by Chas Ryan, Graham Dawson and Paul Hovell in 2003.
It was a modest start - with just 2 Teams whose home matches were hosted by the Hampton Community Sports Association at Beaumont Way (Hampton Hargate).
Over the following seasons, more Hampton FC teams were formed and affiliations with Hunts and Cambridgeshire FA meant the Club started to attract funding support for its Club Development.
Chas Ryan achieved a UEFA B coaching licence and attracted elite Football Clubs (Manchester Utd and Arsenal Soccer School Programmes) and Peterborough United (then from the local EPL Division One) to deliver Community Coaching Programmes.
Developing a Coaching Culture
2010-18
By 2010, Hampton FC had grown to 20 Teams - from U8s to u18s with progression to its Adult sides.
Hampton FC successfully applied for FA Charter Standard and Community Standard Awards by developing a coaching culture and standards to create the environment for local juniors and youths to have the opportunity to play football and receive coaching to help them improve.
Hampton FC began to host Football Tournaments which attracted teams from across Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. They were actively involved in Community Projects too - including support for the Hampton Skate Park - and provided coaching opportunities for young people with learning disabilities and autism which gained recognition from communities across Peterborough and recognition from Peterborough Council.
Numerous awards have been won by Hampton FC teams over time and a number of our players have been scouted by professional Football Clubs. Chas Ryan successfully coached Hampton FC’s first Ladies team to a Cambridgeshire Cup and League Double in 2012.
By 2015 Hampton FC had grown to 23 Teams.
From the Ashes
2019-2024
In late 2019, Hampton FC almost folded. The Adult Hampton FC teams announced that they were leaving the Club to create a new one (FC Hampton). They took Junior teams, Committee members and financial resources with them - leaving Hampton FC with only 4 junior teams and no Club Secretary.
The initial response of the remaining Committee Members was to dismantle Hampton FC.
We lacked experience of running a Club and the finances to do so. After much deliberation, the decision was taken to regroup with a determination to rebuild and improve the Club - with a focus on Junior and Inclusive Football. Everyone agreed to try and build the best possible community Club we could.
Our journey since then has been incredible - which culminated in Hampton FC being awarded Grassroots Club of the Year in 2021.
We are proud to offer inclusive football opportunities for players of ALL ages and abilities.
Hampton FC are a registered provider of Junior/Adult Inclusive, Walking and Wildcats (Girls) Football.
For the (2023-24) Season Hampton had 17 Junior teams (U7s - U14s), 2 Youth Teams (U15s-U16s), 2 Adult (Hampton United) Teams, 2 Adult Pan Disability Teams and 2 Walking Football Teams
Always United
2024+
In 2024 Hampton FC announced a name change to Hampton United.
This feels right because the Club want to provide football opportunities for the whole of the local community. We also want to ensure that participants have the chance to play for as long as they want. Hampton United do not believe that age, sex or ability should be a barrier to enjoying the ‘beautiful game’.
Hampton United are very proud to have created a player pathway - from Junior (5+ year olds) to Adult and beyond (through Walking Football for the over 50s). This has been achieved through the launch of a wide range of new football opportunities for the community.
For the (2024-25) Hampton United will have over 30 Teams - providing football for 350+ local residents every week.
